We meet on the fourth Monday of the month to visit a small area of London. Members volunteer by concentrating on a small area we can link the history to what we see today.
London has grown over the 2000 years from the fortified Roman encampment to a sprawling metropolis. The 2 main centres of the City and Westminster gradually joined and then expanded. Eventually smaller outlying villages were swallowed by spreading suburbia.
There are many London walk guide books covering familiar London landmarks. Our group will incorporate a few of these but there also is a rich history in visiting “off-beat” locations. Although the group has been running since 2010 there is still much more to discover as well as finding variations on previous walks. London never ceases to amaze!
Walks are typically 3-4 miles in length (shorter in the winter) with a coffee stop and lunch. We prefer to travel by public transport but occasionally car journeys are necessary.
